Isa (Jesus) (PBUH): Creation by the Word and Raising the Dead

Summary of Birth, Miracles, and Ascension

Birth and Call

  • The Birth: God created him "with the word 'Be!'"
  • His Mother: Mary the Virgin (The Chosen One)
  • The First Miracle: Speaking in the cradle
  • The Message: Confirmation of the Torah and the glad tidings of Ahmad (Muhammad ﷺ)

The Great Miracles

  • Healing: Curing the blind (born blind) and the leper by God's permission
  • Creation: Creating the form of a bird from clay
  • The Extraordinary: Sending down a table (Maa'idah) from the heaven
  • The Conclusion: His ascension to heaven (He was neither killed nor crucified)

Story Details: Birth in Purity

The birth of Isa was a sign: his mother Maryam (Mary) conceived him by a miracle. When her people accused her, Isa spoke in the cradle, exonerating his mother, saying: ﴾إِنِّي عَبۡدُ ٱللَّهِ ءَاتَىٰنِيَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ وَجَعَلَنِي نَبِيّٗا﴿ (Indeed, I am the servant of God. He has given me the Scripture and made me a Prophet). Then God supported him with great medical and creative miracles, all of which were by the permission of God, to prove to his people that the message was from God and was not a claim to divinity.

The Ascension to Heaven and the Glad Tidings

The Children of Israel tried to kill and crucify him when they saw his insistence on Monotheism, but God saved him and raised him to Himself. He was neither killed nor crucified; rather, the likeness was cast upon another person. Before his ascension, Isa gave the glad tidings of a Prophet who would come after him, whose name is Ahmad (Muhammad ﷺ).

Key Quranic References:

  • Surah Maryam (Mary): Verses 16-37 (His birth and his speaking in the cradle)
  • Surah As-Saff (The Ranks): Verse 6 (The glad tidings of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ)

Lessons and Morals Learned:

  • Absolute Monotheism: His miracles were by God's command, not by his own divinity.
  • The Power of God: The creation of Isa without a father is like the creation of Adam without a father and mother.
  • Sincerity: His eagerness to give glad tidings of the Last Prophet to complete the message.

The Pivotal Verse:

﴾Inna mathala AAeesa AAinda Allahi kamathali adama khalaqahu min turabin thumma qala lahu kun fayakoon﴿ (Al Imran: 59)

Key to the Story: The Sign and the Word

Isa (PBUH) is the dazzling sign of God's power, and his testimony to the Seal of the Prophets confirms the unity and completeness of the Message throughout the ages.

﴾Waqawlihim inna qatalna almaseeha AAeesa ibna maryama rasoola Allahi wama qataloohu wama salaboohu walakin shubbiha lahum wainna allatheena ikhtalafoo feehi lafee shakkin minhu ma lahum bihi min AAilmin illa ittibaAAa aththanni wama qataloohu yaqeena﴿ (An-Nisa: 157)
