Story Details: The Joint Call

Harun's prophethood began when Musa called upon his Lord at Mount Tur: ﴾وَٱجۡعَل لِّي وَزِيرٗا مِّنۡ أَهۡلِي ٢٩ هَٰرُونَ أَخِي ٣٠ ٱشۡدُدۡ بِهِۦٓ أَزۡرِي ٣١ وَأَشۡرِكۡهُ فِيٓ أَمۡرِي﴿ (And appoint for me a minister from my family - Harun, my brother. Increase my strength with him, and let him share my task). God responded to him and made Harun a participating messenger. He confronted Pharaoh with Musa and called to Monotheism.

The Calf Sedition and Musa's Anger

The hardest trial Harun faced was when Musa went to his Lord's appointed meeting for forty nights. In his absence, As-Samiri made a calf from the people's ornaments and claimed it was their god. Harun tried to stop the people and remind them of their error, but they almost killed him. Upon Musa's return, his anger intensified, and he thought Harun had been negligent in his command. However, Harun clarified his position, saying: ﴾إِنِّي خَشِيتُ أَن تَقُولَ فَرَّقۡتَ بَيۡنَ بَنِيٓ إِسۡرَٰٓءِيلَ وَلَمۡ تَرۡقُبۡ قَوۡلِي﴿ (Indeed, I feared that you would say, 'You caused division among the Children of Israel and did not observe my word'). Musa's doubts were then dispelled, and Harun was cleared of negligence.
