Story Details: The Open and Secret Call
After the passing of Adam, polytheism (Shirk) spread among the people of Nuh (Noah). They worshipped idols named after righteous men (Wadd, Suwa', Yaghuth, Ya'uq, and Nasr). Nuh called them to monotheism secretly and openly, night and day, using all means of encouragement and warning. However, they met his call with denial and ridicule, putting their fingers in their ears out of arrogance.
Building the Ark and the Destruction of the Disbelievers
After Nuh despaired of their belief, he supplicated against them, and God answered his prayer. God commanded him to build the Ark (Ship), and his people mocked him as he built it far from any seas. When God's command came, the furnace overflowed (water gushed from the Earth), and the sky poured down heavy rain, so the Flood submerged the entire Earth. Nuh carried in the Ark those who believed with him and a pair of every kind of animal and plant.
God drowned all the disbelievers, including his son who refused to believe. After the Ark settled on Mount Judi, Nuh and the believers came out to inhabit the Earth, and from their lineage, all humanity branched out.
The story of Nuh (Noah) is a symbol of salvation for the righteous, as the Flood was a purification of the Earth and a new beginning for believing humanity.
