Story Details: Open Declaration of Evil

Lut was sent to his people after an obscenity unprecedented by anyone before them had spread among them. Lut called them to abandon this evil, return to the natural inclination (Fitrah), and the purity of women, reminding them that he was a trustworthy Messenger. Their response was to threaten expulsion and to mock him and his followers.

The Arrival of the Angels and the Destruction

God sent Angels (on their way to destroy the people of Lut) to Lut in the form of handsome young men. His treacherous wife quickly informed the people of his guests, so they came rushing to him to commit the obscenity. Lut defended his guests and tried to awaken their natural instinct, and at that point, the Angels revealed their identity and commanded Lut to leave with those who believed with him in the last part of the night, and not to look back.

With sunrise, God's punishment came: the cities were overturned, with their upper part made their lower part, and God rained down upon them stones of Sijjeel (baked clay) from the sky, so they all perished. Lut's wife perished with them because she looked back when she heard the punishment upon her people.

Key to the Story: Purity and Accountability

The story of Lut (Lot) is the most severe lesson against moral and natural deviation. It confirms that God is not heedless of those who spread corruption on Earth, and that accountability is inevitable.

﴾FajaAAalna AAaliyaha safilaha waamtarna AAalayhim hijaratan min sijjeel (74) Inna fee thalika laayatin lilmutawassimeen﴿ (Al-Hijr: 74-75)
