Biography of Sheikh Mishari Rashid al-`Afasy
- Sheikh Mishary bin Rashid Al-Afasy, or Mishary bin Rashid bin Gharib bin Muhammad bin Rashid Al-Afasy, from the Al-Afsa tribe of the Mutair, was born in the State of Kuwait on Sunday, Ramadan 11, 1396 AH / corresponding to September 5, 1976 AD. He is married and has two sons and three daughters. He is known as Abu Rashid.
- He studied in Saudi Arabia at the Islamic University in Medina, specifically at the College of the Holy Quran and Islamic Studies, specializing in the Ten Qira'at (Qur'anic recitations) and Tafsir (exegesis). The sheikh studied under the leading scholars and reciters of Medina at the College of Qira'at (Qur'anic recitations). He reached the third year of his studies. He was certified in the Qira'at of Asim, Hafs's narration, according to the Shatibiyyah method. Reciter Mishari traveled to Egypt to obtain certifications from leading reciters in the Islamic world.
- He memorized the entire Holy Quran between 1992 and 1994 AD, then studied the ten readings and interpretation at the College of the Holy Quran and Islamic Studies at the Islamic University in Madinah. His first Quranic publication was (Ghafir, Fussilat, and Ash-Shura 1416 AH), and he led the prayers for the first time in the Grand Mosque in Kuwait during the last ten days of Ramadan 1420 AH. He obtained a license in the recitation of Asim bin Abi Al-Najoud from Sheikh Abdul Rafi Radwan Al-Sharqawi, an oral license from Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Samnoudi, and a license in the narration of Hafs from Asim from Sheikh Ahmed Abdul Aziz Al-Zayat. He studied the recitation of Asim bin Abi Al-Najoud under Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Issa Al-Masrawi according to the Shatibiyyah and Al-Tayyibah methods. He also studied under Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Akhdar and Sheikh Khalil Al-Rahman Al-Qari. He completed two recitations of the Holy Quran (the chanted Quran 1424 AH - the California recitation 1430 AH) and an upcoming recitation according to the narration of Warsh on the authority of Nafi’.
- Sheikh Al-Afasy mastered the Ten Qira'at and sought to revive them among people through Al-Afasy Service, Al-Afasy Channel, and his various Quranic publications. He recorded texts on Qira'at and Tajweed (Matn Al-Shatibiyyah, Matn Al-Durrah, Al-Tuhafah Al-Samanudiyyah), and participated as a judge in many Quran competitions in America, France, Chechnya, the Emirates, and Saudi Arabia. He also has programs for teaching the Quran (Khaluna Ma'ah - Recite with Al-Afasy - Recite with Al-Afasy 2). Among his lectures are (Lecture on the Science of Qira'at - Lecture on the Ten Qira'at and their Impact on Our Lives). He supervises several projects such as (Al-Afasy Endowment Project - Quran Memorizer Project - British Academy for Quranic Sciences).
- His debut in singing was in 2003, when he presented a poem entitled (Oh, you who claims to understand), which was the first singing poem presented by Sheikh Mishary bin Rashid Al-Afasy, and this was the beginning of his launch in the sky of singing. After the success of this poem, Al-Afasy decided to release a singing album, which he carried, entitled "Eyes of Snakes", and this album was the first in his singing career. Before that, he recorded poetic systems and scientific texts on the ten readings. In 2002, he recorded the text of Al-Shatibiyyah on the seven readings, then he recorded Al-Durra in 2003, and in 2006, the text of Al-Samanudiyyah, the comprehensive text on Tajweed.
